Aqueduct: Racing will resume after jockeys met with NYRA
Racing will resume at Aqueduct on Thursday after members of the Jockeys' Guild met with New York Racing Association representatives on Monday to discuss their dispute.
Racing at Aqueduct was canceled after the first race Sunday when jockeys refused to ride.
NYRA said jockeys protested the duties of the clerk of scales and assistant clerk of scales and declined to participate in the remaining eight races on the nine-race program.
In a statement issued Monday, Jockeys' Guild president and CEO Terry Meyocks said the meeting with NYRA was "lengthy and productive."
"This was an unfortunate event that impacted the owners, trainers and bettors who support NYRA throughout the year. Today's meeting was an opportunity to turn the page, and we thank (president and CEO) David O'Rourke and his management team for their willingness to listen to the concerns of our membership and their commitment to a renewed level of communication with the riders.
"We look forward to the resumption of racing at Aqueduct on Thursday."
Meyocks told Daily Racing Form that the meeting included himself, jockeys John Velazquez, Javier Castellano, Kendrick Carmouche and Flavien Prat, as well as O’Rourke and NYRA senior vice president of racing operations Andrew Offerman. New York’s three racing stewards, Braulio Baeza, Victor Escobar and Cody Watkins also were on the call.
