Apprentice Kali Francois Gets First Win at Monmouth

For apprentice rider Kali Francois the 29th time was the charm, as the “bug girl” enjoyed her first career win after piloting Brave Titan to victory in the second race at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
“It’s great to get that first one,” said Francois, a 24-year-old native of Marinette, Wisconsin.  “I’ve been riding down at Delaware this summer and plan on spending the winter at Laurel.  I’m just thankful for the opportunity and to ride my first winner.”
A 2012 graduate of the North American Racing Academy in Lexington, Kentucky, Francois put Brave Titan in the race right from the onset, pressing the favorite Little Tom through the early stages of the six furlong claiming event.  At the top of the stretch Francois and Brave Titan had dispensed with that rival, and although drifting out in the lane, were able to stay clear for a 6 ¼-length score, returning $14.60.

The 2015 Monmouth Park meet continues on Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 27.  Gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
