Apprentice Hernandez Wins Three at Gulfstream
Apprentice Harry Hernandez continued his strong streak of riding at Gulfstream Park Wednesday, riding three winners on the eight-race card.
Hernandez captured the first three races Wednesday, piloting Eduardito ($4.60) to victory in the opener before being part of a dead heat with Ringold in the second race aboard Fire Blue ($4.80). He then produced a perfectly timed ride aboard Time for Harlan ($15.00) to get up just in time to take the third race.
“I
did expect them to run well,” Hernandez said of his mounts. “They were
all working good, and I looked at the past performances in the racing
form, and they looked good. You just need a little luck. You look for a
good place [to position the horses] and you just let them run.”
In
the past five racing days at Gulfstream, Hernandez has emerged
victorious in 10 of 30 starts, resulting in an impressive 33 percent win
clip. The 18-year-old Puerto Rican native is also riding his mounts to
in the money finishes 60 percent of the time.
“It feels good,” Hernandez said. “It feels great. It just makes you want to keep riding the whole day.”
Hernandez will return with four more mounts on Thursday’s
eight-race card in Hallandale and will have another live chance to
sweep the early double. He is slated to ride the morning line favorite
in each of the first two races, including Spell Breaker (2-1 in Race 1)
and Abadoy (5-2 in Race 2).
