Anothertwistafate has 'bright future,' perhaps on Del Mar's turf

Following a 10th-place finish in the Preakness Stakes, Anothertwistafate shipped back to Golden Gate Fields on Wednesday afternoon.

The El Camino Real Derby winner, who took three straight races locally before hitting the Triple Crown trail, will resume training over the Tapeta in preparation for a next start to be determined.

“We’ll regroup, train him at Golden Gate and look at some races for this summer,” trainer Blaine Wright said. “He pulled up good and looked fine after the [Preakness]. We would have liked to have finished in a better position, sure, but it was a great experience and we are very proud of our horse."

Wright indicated that Anothertwistafate will target a summer and fall campaign, with numerous options to consider.

“We’d really like to try [Anothertwistafate] on turf,” continued Wright. “We’re looking at some races -- maybe a race or two at Del Mar -- but we still think the world of him and know he has a bright future. He’s well-traveled and has been running hard, so we’ll freshen him up."

Del Mar's turf stakes for 3-year-olds include the opening day Oceanside on July 17, the Aug. 4 La Jolla Handicap (G3) and the Sept. 1 Del Mar Derby (G2).

In the Preakness, Anothertwistafate ran three-wide essentially the whole way, made a big near the lead at the top of the stretch, then faded.

“Thanks to everyone who showed their support,” said Wright, who made Anothertwistafate his first Triple Crown race starter. “It meant a lot to represent Golden Gate Fields and be a part of the Preakness, a race of such high caliber.”
