Another bizarre tale for Del Mar's history

Del Mar has had some bizarre incidents over the years, but Saturday’s stolen veterinarian van goes to the near the top of the list.

Officials said a man dressed a lot like the state track veterinarian jumped onto the track and piled into the track’s vet van between races. He then drove the van toward the west, to the top of the stretch, where he jumped out and tried to mix into the crowd.

“It took security a while because he got into the crowd, but they caught him after an hour and a half,” one official said. “Word was he made a bet with his buddies that he could do it. He was drunk, so he was charged with a DUI.”
