For $190,000, Annals of Time heading back to Brown in 2020

The end of a racing partnership between Seth Klarman’s Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence resulted in the priciest purchase of a 6-year-old male horse at auction that Brad Weisbord can recall.

From ELiTE Sales, Weisbord consigned eight horses scheduled to go through the ring Wednesday at the Keeneland November Sale, with a $190,000 winning bid for Annals of Time leading the way.

“Clearly there were some game people that wanted a top-level horse,” Weisbord said.

In the end, agent Mike Ryan signed the ticket to send Annals of Time back home to the Chad Brown barn, this time as an outright-owned horse for Klaravich Stables.

“He’s a horse that Chad likes, and he hopes there’s still improvement in them,” Ryan said. “A lot of Chad’s horses improve with maturity and age. We’re hoping this is the case with this horse — a sound horse. We’ll see what happens.”

A son of Temple City, Annals of Time is a multiple Grade 1 winner who in his last start for trainer Chad Brown prevailed in Saratoga’s Sword Dancer (G1). Since then, he underwent surgery to remove bone chips that counted Annals of Time out of the races the rest of 2019.

Overall, Annals of Time has won 5 of 8 starts, including Del Mar’s Hollywood Derby (G1) at age 3. Weisbord said the horse — who could also become a stallion prospect down the line — vetted clean following his operation and is ready to return to training.

“It’s kind of cool to see that we’ll all get to see him back at the races next year,” Weisbord said.

Build to Suit, another from the partnership, also went back to Klaravich Stables for $190,000 on Wednesday. The 5-year-old by Dominus is 6-for-10 with a last out victory in Belmont Park's Hudson Handicap.

ELiTE has in recent years sold 5-year-old Next Shares ($190,000) and 6-year-old Long on Value ($100,000). Both went on to win Grade 1 races in their next seasons.
