Analyze It one to watch after 2017 Cecil B. DeMille win
By Jonathan Lintner
For 33-1 longshot King Eddie, it was a speed duel. But for 1-2 favorite Analyze It, the opening portion of Sunday's Grade 3, $100,000 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes looked like more of a canter.
Consider him a colt to watch moving forward.
The 2-year-old by Point of Entry opened it up when asked by Jockey Jose Ortiz and won for fun, finishing a mile in a stakes-record time of 1:35.05 after going the opening quarter in 23.40 and the half in 47.48 seconds.
"He was doing it pretty easy -- very, very easy," Ortiz said. "I knew I had a lot of horse. When we passed the 3/8 pole I knew I had a really nice horse."
The jockey added that Analyze It is "pretty scary. I haven't ridden one like this -- a 2-year-old -- in a while."
It could be a debate between brothers as to who's on him next. Irad Ortiz rode Analyze It to a 6 1/4-length debut win Oct. 28 at Belmont Park in another front-running effort.
Sunday, he left runner-up Pubilius Syrus 4 1/2 lengths behind, while East Rand beat out Choo Choo in a photo for third.
“Wow," said Jose Hernandez, assistant to Brown. "He’s an amazing horse to work with and be around. I was a little worried early when the horse came up outside and tried to put some pressure on him. But I know this horse and he can be on the pace or off it. As soon as they turned for home, he was gone.”
It's an embarrassment of riches for Brown, who in the 2-year-old turf filly division has Rushing Fall, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner, as well as Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Good Magic.
Brown also won Sunday’s Grade 1 Matriarch at Del Mar with Off Limits, an experienced older filly. Consider this: Analyze It's final time at the same distance was just 0.68 seconds slower in his second career start.
