Heavy favorite Cost of Freedom put away pace rival Excessive Passion but he could not withstand the longshot rally of Amazombie in Saturday's Sunshine Millions Sprint at Santa Anita Park.

The winner, trained by Bill Spawr, sat the right staking trip under Mike Smith and had just enough left to edge late moving Florida shipper Apriority. Five-year-old California-bred gelding Amazombie (Northern Afleet) paid $24.80 to win. Saturday's victory was his 6th lifetime and pushed his earnings over the $300,000 mark.

Veteran gelding Cost of Freedom was seeking his 4th straight win but the synthetic sprint specialist fell a couple of heads short and had to settle for the show.

Don Tito completed the superfecta and was followed by Cayambe, Quick Enough, Excessive Passion, and Dance With Gable.

The winning six furlong time was 1:07.28.
