Always Shopping continues winning ways in La Prevoyante
Repole Stable's 5-year-old homebred Always Shopping, a Grade 2 winner on dirt in 2019, is now a dual-surface graded stakes winner following her draw-off victory in the Grade 3, $125,000 La Prevoyante Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.
Always Shopping – who won the Gazelle (G2) as a 3-year-old – has now won three of four stars since being switched to the turf by trainer Todd Pletcher. Previously, she won Monroe Stakes at Gulfstream last September and, after a head loss in the Oct. 12 Dowager (G3) at Keeneland, came back with an authoritative three-length win in the Dec. 19 Via Borghese at Gulfstream to close out the season.
The run of success by Always Shopping – who is by Awesome Again out of graded-stakes winner Stopchargingmaria – has also coincided with the addition of blinkers, which were first added for the Monroe.
Sent off the even-money favorite under Irad Ortiz Jr., Always Shopping saved ground while rating off the pace in third through fractions of 23.39, 47.63, 1:12.83 and 1:38.11 for the opening mile of the 1 1/2-mile journey.
Always Shopping ranged into striking range on the third and final turn and when given her cue at the top of the stretch, accelerated past the field to earn a comfortable victory. Delta's Kingdom was second and was followed by long shot Iron of Reality with Sister Hanan completing the superfecta.
Always Shopping improves to 14: 5-3-1 with more than $450,000 in earnings.
