The 2023 Thoroughbred season at Remington Park will stretch one day deeper into December. An afternoon program has been added for next Saturday with the first race starting at 3:30 p.m. EST.

The extra date serves as a makeup and then some for the nine races lost Wednesday when the track lighting system did not power up to the full potential needed for racing.

Next Saturday’s card will feature 12 races to put a wrap on the season. Remington Park had planned on finishing the live racing calendar the night before on Friday, when the Remington Springboard Mile will be run for 10-5-3-2-1 Kentucky Derby qualifying points.

The meet began Aug. 18. Steve Asmussen is the leading trainer with 41 wins, 14 more than second-place Karl Broberg. Stewart Elliott, whose 73 victories are 31 more than his nearest competitor Richard Eramia, is on his way to the riding title. End Zone Athletics is the leading owner with 18 wins compared with 13 for L and G Racing Stables.
