Fasig-Tipton: 4 juveniles bring 7 figures, led by $1.1 million filly

The 2025 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-year-olds in training sale, conducted Tuesday in Timonium, Md., established new sale records for gross, average and median. A $1.1 million filly topped the sale, one of four seven-figure offerings on the day.

A filly by Girvin, hip 368, topped the sale when sold for $1.1 million to Kerri Radcliffe-Alex Elliott, agent for Memo Racing and Amo Racing. The dark bay or brown filly is out of the winning Broken Vow mare Scarlet Dixie, already the dam of two winning 2-year-olds from two to race. Hip 368 hails from the immediate family of Grade 2 winner Freefourinternet and French group stakes winner Chimes Band. The Girvin filly worked an eighth in 10.1 seconds during the under-tack show.

The sale’s top priced colt was a son of Violence, hip 544, sold for $1.5 million to Donato Lanni, agent, from the consignment of Top Line Sales, agent. The chestnut colt is out of the stakes producing Street Boss mare A Taste of Red. That mare is a half-sister to multiple Grade 2-winning millionaire Tower of Texas, graded-stakes winner Street Sounds, stakes winner Silver Highlight, and to the dam of Grade 2 winner First Peace. The immediate family includes champion Gretzky the Great and Grade 1 winner Love Theway Youare. The Violence colt galloped during the under-tack show.

Colts by Nyquist and Into Mischief also sold for seven figures.

The Nyquist colt, hip 79, sold for $1 million to Mayberry Farm from the consignment of Wavertree Stables, agent. The chestnut colt is out of the unraced Giant’s Causeway mare Deja Vu, already the dam of five winners, including Grade 1-placed stakes winner Crystal Ball, by Malibu Moon, and multiple stakes places winner Escapade, by More Than Ready. Dam Deja Vu is a half-sister to Grade 1 winning millionaire Madcap Escapade, who produced Grade 1 winner Mi Sueno, and to Grade 1 winner Dubai Escapade, herself the granddam of Eclipse champion 2-year-old filly Immersive. The Nyquist colt worked an eighth in 10.2 seconds during the under-tack show.

The Into Mischief colt (hip 334) sold for $1,000,000 to Mahmud Mouni from the consignment of Kings Equine, agent. The bay colt is out of the stakes winning Speightstown mare Quick Flip, dam of five to race, all winners, including multiple Grade 1 placed Grade 2 inner Following Sea (Runhappy), graded stakes placed Gimmick (also by Into Mischief) and stakes placed Inspeightof and Refuel. The immediate family includes Grade 1 winner Mitterand and Grade 2 winner French Deputy. The Into Mischief colt worked an eighth in 10.1 during the under tack show.

Overall, 326 horses sold for a total of $44,192,500. That figure eclipsed the previous record gross of $37,297,500 established in 2022 by 18.5%. The average rose to $135,560, a 42.1% increase over the highwater mark established at $95,425 last year. The median rose 20% to $60,000 from $50,000 last year; the latter was formerly tied for top mark in this category with the sales conducted in 2023 and 2021. The reserve-not-attained rate was 24.2%.

The sale was the 11th consecutive year the Midlantic May 2-year-olds in training sale has produced a seven-figure sale topper and the first time multiple juveniles sold for $1 million or more.

After a fatal breakdown by a filly during a Thursday breeze and severe weather Friday evening in Timonium, Fasig-Tipton adjusted the format of Sunday’s final session of its under-tack show. All horses galloped only on Sunday, and there were no timed breezes.
