$460,000 colt Loggins is retired after only 2 races
Loggins, bought for $460,000 as a yearling, was retired at age 3 after only two races.
"He had a setback he could not come back from," trainer Brad Cox said in a news release from bloodstock agency BSW/Crow. "He was cut out to be special."
The Ghostzapper colt out of Beyond Blame won his first start, a 6 1/2-furlong sprint at Churchill Downs in September, by 8 1/2 lengths as the odds-on favorite. His next and final start was in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 8. Again the favorite, he lost by a neck to Forte, who went on to be named the champion 2-year-old male.
Loggins was owned by Spendthrift Farm, Steve Landers Racing, Martin S. Schwartz, Michael Dubb Ten Strike Racing, Jim Bakke, Titletown Racing Stables, Kueber Racing, Big Easy Racing and Winners Win. His career earnings totaled $175,500.
"Loggins was a beautiful yearling," Cox said. "I was quickly drawn to him given the fact we had trained the mare. He was a precocious, fast 2-year-old that showed brilliance from day one."
He said the plan had been to run Loggins in the classics after his Breeders' Futurity effort, but the plans were derailed by his setback.
Stud plans are pending, according to a Twitter post by BSW/Crow.
