2022 Kentucky Derby: See 10 new horses with Vegas odds
Two ineligible horses and another who is injured carried the three shortest prices in the Kentucky Derby 2022 futures updated Sunday night by Caesars Sportsbook at William Hill Nevada.
After winning Sunday’s Bob Hope Stakes (G3) at Del Mar, the Canadian-bred colt Messier was cut from 35-1 to 20-1, tying him for second choice.
Like Breeders’ Cup Juvenile victor Corniche, who remains the 6-1 futures favorite, Messier is trained by Bob Baffert, who with his stable was banned from Churchill Downs for the next two years after 2021 Derby winner Medina Spirit failed an after-race drug test.
The whole matter is expected to remain tied up in litigation for some time, and some owners of Baffert’s current 2-year-olds may yet choose to move their horses to other trainers before qualifying for the 2022 Derby is finished.
Jack Christopher, the 20-1 co-second choice in the futures, is recovering from what trainer Chad Brown said was a suspensory ligament injury that forced him to be scratched from the Breeders’ Cup.
Nine new betting choices were added in the past 1 1/2 weeks, including Juvenile Fillies winner Echo Zulu at 125-1.
The new futures also included a Triple Crown prop, making a sweep a 7-1 long shot. Bettors may lay 1-11 that no horse will win all three classics in 2022.
There are 164 horses listed in the Caesars at William Hill futures.
