2019 Belmont Stakes hero Sir Winston is set to make the first start of his 5-year-old season at Woodbine.

The Mark Casse-trained Sir Winston is entered in an allowance optional claiming race Thursday going 1 1/16 miles over the all-weather track. Jockey Antonio Gallardo will have the mount in the day’s sixth race, with a 3:42 p.m. EDT post time.

Sir Winston has not started a race since Sept. 1, 2020, when he finished fourth at Churchill Downs in the Champions Day Marathon Overnight Stakes. He returned to the work tab June 12 at Fair Hill and has worked steadily at Woodbine since July 4.

Owner-breeder Tracy Farmer’s Sir Winston sports a career record of 15: 4-2-1 with more than $1.03 million in career earnings. The son of Awesome Again’s lone graded victory came in the 2019 Belmont, which he upset at 10-1 odds.
