The 2017 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season began on Friday night with all racing conducted on a muddy main track after heavy rain fell for much of the day. Talebearer handled the surface well in the opener to win the initial race of the season by three-quarters of a length.
Owned by David Moad of Burleson, Texas and trained by Karl Broberg, Talebearer won his second race in a row, adding his Friday night Remington Park win to a victory at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 23. Colby Hernandez was up for the win as Tailbearer handled the six-furlong, $7,500-level claiming race in 1:11.19.
Tailbearer, sat in sixth place in the field of 13 after a quarter-mile was contested before beginning his rally. The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred gained the lead early in the stretch from original pacesetter Buddy Brown then fended off a late rally by Woody’s Fault who settled for second. Amaze was third, 1-1/4 lengths behind the winner.
The 5-2 wagering favorite, Talebearer paid $7.40 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.60 to show. Woody’s Fault paid $17.80 to place and $9.40 to show. Amaze returned $3.80 to show.
A son of Tale Of The Cat from the Raj Waki mare Too Late Now, Talebearer won his second career race from 10 starts while winning his first attempt at Remington Park. The winner’s check of $6,168 moves the overall earnings for Talebearer to $29,654.
Opening Weekend continues with Saturday night racing underway at 7pm. The third-annual “Remington Bark” event for dogs and central Oklahoma canine rescues will begin at 6pm, featuring costume contests, exhibition races and more.
