Lost one, gained one. That was the morning for West Point Thoroughbreds ownership group regarding Kentucky Derby 2014.
Trainer Graham Motion reported that Ring Weekend had spiked a fever and would not start in Kentucky Derby 140, thus opening up a spot for Commanding Curve, trained by Dallas Stewart. Both horses are owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, although there are different ownership groups with each horse.
Only one year ago, Stewart found himself in this position with Golden Soul. The late runner was a late edition to the Derby field, and ended up running second as one of the longest shots in the race.
