$1.35 million purchase Miss Hollywood romps in Monroe Stakes
Late-developing Miss Hollywood was stunning in victory Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the eye-catching 4-year-old filly powered to a five-length triumph in the $75,000 Monroe Stakes.
The $1.35 million yearling purchase broke cleanly from the starting gate to assume the lead along the backstretch and strutted home to her first stakes victory while running seven furlongs in 1:22.65.
The daughter of 2003 Hollywood Starlet (G1) and the 2006 Vanity (G1) winner Hollywood Story was ridden by Emisael Jaramillo, giving Venezuela’s all-time win leader his third victory of the afternoon.
“We’re very happy with her race,” trainer Giuseppe Iadisernia said. “We expected her to run a big race.”
Distinta, ridden by Edgard Zayas, closed to finish second, three-quarters of a length ahead of Winning for Sarah.
Miss Hollywood broke her maiden at Gulfstream by 10 ¼ lengths April 10 before winning an entry-level allowance by 9 ¾ lengths June 2. In her stakes debut, the Kentucky-bred filly showed the way before losing a neck decision to Killer Bird in the one-mile Barely Even Stakes July 3.
Miss Hollywood stamped herself as a filly with a bright stakes future with her sharp performance Sunday.
“I don’t have a race picked out yet. We’ll check out the filly and see how she comes out of the race,” Iadisernia said. “I’m sure by next week, I’ll make a decision.”
