1962 Preakness: the Stretch Duel in Which 'All Heck Broke Loose'

It remains one of the most iconic images of the heat of battle in 20th century thoroughbred racing. The spectacular head-on view of the stretch duel between Ridan and Greek Money in the 1962 Preakness Stakes was captured almost by accident 50 years ago, on a scorching hot May afternoon by Joseph A. DiPaola Jr., a long-time photographer for The Baltimore Sun.
