Who Am I ???

*Bred in the great state of Kentucky, my sire was a winner of the Run for the Carnations.

*My famous owner was best known for his regular place in American newspapers.

*I may have finished 10th in my career debut, but I turned it around to become a stakes winner at two.

*A winner of just over one-fifth of my career races, I ran more times as a juvenile than I did the rest of my career.

*My first stakes win came in a race that has been run one hundred times.

*Yes, I raced in May at Churchill Downs as a three-year-old, but was defeated by a Hall of Famer.

*I had finished ahead of that excellent rival a few times before that, though.

*My most important career victory was also my final career victory.

*I was never worried to see a little rain in the forecast for race day.

*A stakes race named in my honor was most recently won by a descendant of Seattle Slew.

*The best of my offspring was a champion, but could only manage 7th in the same race that made me famous.

You should know by now … Who Am I ???
