Visiting American Pharoah one year after Triple Crown glory (VIDEO)
It was one year ago today when American Pharoah raced into the everyday household, thrilling both fans, and first-time watchers, of all ages. By sweeping the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes the way he did, the magnificent son of Pioneerof The Nile not only became the first horse to win the Triple Crown in 37 years, but he also became America’s horse. As gentle and sweet as he is talented, American Pharoah was the perfect horse to come along at the perfect time. Owned by Zayat Stables, trained by Bob Baffert, and ridden by Victor Espinoza, he did everything that can be imagined for a horse in 2015, including a dominant win over older horses in the Breeders’ Cup Classic to finish his season, and his racing career. As much as he has already done for racing, the story of American Pharoah is far from over.
Now standing his first season at stud for Coolmore America at Ashford Stud, the two-time champion has settled in very nicely to his second career. In the company of some of the world’s best sires, like Giant’s Causeway and Uncle Mo, it is the hope that he can pass on his greatness to his sons and daughters. As the most anticipated new stallion in years, he will be given every opportunity to succeed. From the perspective of a fan -- I am awestruck around him just like most of you -- it’s nice to know how very well he is doing, and how well he is cared for. Thanks to Coolmore and the Zayats for setting up our visit, I invite you to watch now as we sneak a peek to see how the champ is doing at his glorious new home…
