Tepin Retired from Racing
Due to a waning desire to compete at the races any longer, the connections of the magnificent mare, Tepin, have announced her retirement from racing today. Happily, she retires sound.
Owned by Robert Masterson, trained by Mark Casse, and regularly ridden by Julien Leparoux, Tepin leaves racing as the two-time defending champion turf female. An ultra-popular runner the past few years, the six-year-old daughter of Bernstein retires with a career mark of 23-13-5-1, with earnings in excess of $4.4 million.
Among her career highlights include a winning streak that spanned eight races, and more than a calendar year. Included within, were important victories in three different countries. In 2015, with a familiar cock of the head, and an acceleration at the top of the lane, she won the Breeders' Cup Mile, defeating an international cast of males in dazzling fashion.
Among her victories last year, Tepin added important triumphs in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, as well as the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile.
The turf mare that routinely beat the boys will be best remembered as a runner for her prowess on grass, but Tepin was also a graded stakes winner on the dirt, having scored her first big career victory in the $500,000 Delta Downs Princess as a two-year-old.
Join all of us here at Horse Racing Nation in wishing the great Tepin a happy and healthy retirement!
