Race Clue #1 - A small but select field of six lined up for this historic Grade 1 affair.

Race Clue #2 - The clear favorite was the defending Horse of the Year, while the third and fourth choices were both classic winners.

Race Clue #3 - All three would finish in the top four, but none would win.

Race Clue #4 - The winner dug in and prevailed, as the second betting choice.

Race Clue #5 - The Preakness winner set the pace, but weakened late to finish third.

Race Clue #6 - The Belmont winner ran on late, but could do no better than fourth.

Race Clue #7 - The winner would not race again for more than four months.

Race Clue #8 - Neither the winner, nor the second-place finisher, were bred in the state of Kentucky.

Race Clue #9 - The second and third place finishers would come back to run third and second respectively in that same year's edition of the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Race Clue #10 - The winner came back to win this important race again the following year, but was denied a third, the year after that.

You should know it by now … Tell me the race and the year!
