Pictures from Turfway Park - Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes Day

As promised, here are some of my favorite snapshots from a visit to Turfway Park on their biggest afternoon of the year, Spiral Stakes Day. Starting with a shot of a really nice paddock before the races started.

The geese were hungry and the toteboard was all decked out for Spiral Day.

Now that you know the date of these pictures, how about a few with no date.

Just one of the reasons they were all visiting beautiful Florence, Kentucky.

Spiral favorite Heavy Breathing before the race, no sign of his trainer, Todd Pletcher, though.

Getting up close and personal with the second choice, Handsome Mike

It's no joke, Fair Grounds leading rider was in town.

If the big race was a beauty contest, Went the Day Well was going to win going away.

You can see two things in this shot: 1) I am far from a professional photograher, and 2) Went the Day Well was much the best in the Spiral.

It hasn't happened a lot lately, but Saturday just wasn't Rosie's day.

Yes, the winner broke a sweat, but just barely.

Looking good! Johnny V and Went the Day Well.

Something tells me you have not seen the last of this pair.

Well that's it ... as always I had a great time at Turfway Park on Spiral Stakes Day. I probably will not be back until next year, but I hope to see you there next spring!
