Name These Rivals!

Photo:

Rival Clue #1 - We were horses of a different color, and bred in different states, but we ultimately were owned and trained by the same pair.

Rival Clue #2- Both rivals won their career debuts, although one of them did it in a dead-heat.

Rival Clue #3- In our first meeting, one rival came in on a six-race win streak, while the other had lost five in a row in races like the Suburban, Brooklyn, and Whitney.

Rival Clue #4 - That first meeting took place in a one-turn race named after an American racing legend.

Rival Clue #5 - Our rivalry was short-lived, but the second of our two contests, which were held at different tracks, and at different distances, decided a championship.

Rival Clue #6 - Combined, we ran more than 75 times, winning 33, while collecting four championships.

Do you know who we are yet?

Rival Clue #7 - Ten furlongs was the distance of both rivals most important career victory, and in fact, came in the same race, one year apart.

Rival Clue #8 - Only one of the rivals ran in the Kentucky Derby, and finished off the board.

Rival Clue #9 - Our respective records in the rivalry were: 2-1-1-0 and 2-1-0-0.

Rival Clue #10 - One rival’s longest winning streak was two, while the other did four times better than that.

Rival Clue #11 - Only one of us made it into the Hall of Fame, but it was not the one who won a championship in consecutive years.

Rival Clue #12 - Born one year apart, one rival retired at five, while the other’s racing career ended at the age of four.

Go ahead … Name us both!
