Name These Rivals!

Rival Clue #1 - We met seven times in a rivalry that spilled over into three different seasons.

Rival Clue #2 - One rival’s initial stakes attempt came in the Grade 1 Hopeful, while the other’s came in the Grade 1 Champagne.

Rival Clue #3 - Our first meeting came at the Breeders’ Cup, an event in which each of us participated multiple times.

Rival Clue #4 - Both rivals won exactly ten stakes races.

Rival Clue #5 - In our final meeting, we ran 1-2 at Saratoga, where the well beaten third place finisher now has a race named after him.

Rival Clue #6 - One rival was a Kentucky homebred of a historic farm, the other was also a homebred, but not of Kentucky, and was sold to foreign interests.

Do you know who we are yet?

Rival Clue #7 - It took the fifth try for the only rival to have won an Eclipse Award to come out on top in our contests against each other.

Rival Clue #8 - One of us raced at Atlantic City, while one of us raced in the Far East.

Rival Clue #9 - In all seven of our meetings, one of us won the race, with the other finishing second five times.

Rival Clue #10 - Both of our trainers were inducted into Racing’s Hall of Fame within ten years of our retirement from racing.

Rival Clue #11 - Each rival won more than 55% of our lifetime races, and combined we earned more than five million dollars.

Rival Clue #12 - We retired the same year, each having lost our final two races.

Go ahead … Name us both!
