Kinda Spicy is Muy Caliente!

Kinda Spicy certainly is bred to be a champion. The powerful, young bay is a daughter of two Horses of the Year; America’s 1992 champ, A.P. Indy, and a Chilean Horse of the Year, Isola Piu Bella, who was also was a graded stakes winner after coming to the States. In only two starts it appears that a lot of her parent’s class may have been passed down to Kinda Spicy. Today in the 9th race at Saratoga, the Tom Albertrani trained miss faced a tougher than usual field in a non-winners of one allowance race. Among the fillies she had to deal with included R Gypsy Gold who finished 3rd in the Mother Goose in her last start, and Believe in A.P., last seen running 2nd in the Demoiselle Stakes. The test proved to be little trouble for the Darley homebred.
Sent off as the hot 6-5 choice, Kinda Spicy was content to sit in a comfortable, stalking position behind the two stakes experienced fillies. When rider, John Velazquez, asked her for run on the far turn, it appeared that she might be in for a serious battle with Believe in A.P. But just as she had done in her authoritative 6 3/4-length maiden win last month at Belmont, Kinda Spicy leveled out, and began to stride out to the wire. At the finish of the 1 1/8 mile affair, she was 3 1/2-lengths clear of the late-running, four-year-old filly, Authenticity. The win, in her first try around two turns, kept Kinda Spicy perfect in two starts, and opened the door for her connections to go after even bigger game next time.
For a sophomore filly there is not much bigger game than the Spa’s prestigious Alabama Stakes, and after today’s victory, she is being seriously considered for the huge test. If they do indeed accept the challenge of the Alabama, it would mean that a filly making only her third lifetime start would be facing the likes of It’s Tricky, Inglorious, Zazu, and St. John’s River. She'd have to be awfully good just to compete against that salty bunch. Kinda Spicy just may be that good.
