Before I reveal my favorite race of 2016, I would like to direct you to something far more important. Put together each year by our own Candice Curtis, the compilation of our favorite races is a wonderful way of looking back fondly at the season that was. Each of the 16 writer's contribution is a great read. Check it out now!

As for me ...

My Favorite race of the thoroughbred season was not one that came down to a head-bobbing finish. Nor was it one that led to a wagering windfall. No, my favorite race of the year was all about being a fan. It was Belmont Stakes Day, which automatically means I’m having a great time with friends at one of my old stomping grounds, not to mention the fantastic card of racing NYRA puts on every June. And on this day, it just so happened that my favorite horse in training, Frosted, was running in one of my favorite races of the year, the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap.

Perched down on the rail, I was full of nervous excitement as I waited for the field to start running. Once away, my eyes became glued on the gray horse with the royal blue silks. He was also on the rail, and waiting for room to roll as fast fractions were set ahead of him. On the far turn, my heart raced as Frosted came off the rail and swung to the outside with a sudden burst. “He’s going to win,” I thought to myself. Oh boy, did he. The stretch run of the Met Mile was a fast one, but to me it happened slow. Frosted pulled away with every stride, on his way to one of the greatest racing performances I’ve ever seen.

Frosted’s racing career was full of ups and downs, but not many horses ever hit a peak as high as Frosted soared on that afternoon at Belmont Park. It was without a doubt, my favorite race of 2016.

Let's keep the conversation on this going ... I invite you to tell us your favorite race of the year, and why, in the comment selection below. It will be our little way of celebrating another great season of thoroughbred horse racing!
