Caixa Eletronica looks to cash in once again

Now a venerable old-timer at eight-years-old, Caixa Eletronica continues to be a veritable cash machine. Tomorrow night at Charles Town Races, the old man will be in search of the biggest payday in his long career in the $1.5 million Charles Town Classic. If he is to succeed in the grade 2 nighttime affair, he will need to defeat a quality field that includes one of  the most accomplished horses in the nation, Game On Dude. Defeating quality fields in nothing new, though, for Caixa Eletronica.

 

The defending champion of this race, (last year it carried a purse of only $1 million), Caixa Eletronica handled a deep bunch in the 2012 edition when he rolled to a three length tally at odds of 8-1. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the Arromanches chestnut became a millionaire with that win in West Virginia last year. This year, the Repole Stable colorbearer could push his earning over the $2.6 million mark if he can record his 21st lifetime victory in 62 lifetime starts.

 

Caixa Eletronica has proved to be nothing if not versatile over his career. He's won on fast tracks and on muddy tracks, and on more than one occasion has carried more than 130 pounds to victory. The Kentucky-bred has won graded stakes at 3 different distances ranging from 6 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles. That ability to succeed in both routes and sprints was on full display last year, when he added two more sharp graded stakes scores in the True North and Fall Highweight after winning at Charles Town. Both of those victories came in sprints, while his rich victory in the Classic last year came around three turns. It also should not be understimated that in last year's impressive victory, he showed a fondness for the tight turns of the three-quarter mile track at Charles Town. This is something in which not all horses can easily adapt.

 

The equine cash machine comes into the race in good form. Despite missing some  time with a foot injury, he comes into the Charles Town Classic off an easy score in the 6 furlong Uncle Mo Stakes at Aqueduct five weeks ago. Despite being the defending champion, Caixa Eletronica will only carry 116 pounds, which is seven less than the morning line favorite, Game On Dude, two less than the multiple grade 1 stakes winner, Ron the Greek, and equal to Clubhouse Ride, who comes in off a runner-up performance to Game On Dude in the Santa Anita Handicap.
