Day 2 of Saratoga Handicapping Contest
Sorry it took so long.
I had a ton of work to do with only a single 4/1 winner on day 1. The prospects for longshots on day 2 seemed promising. I found a limit horse in my third of ten picks on Saturday in the 6th race at Saratoga with Impetuous Spirit. Her dam had a ton of turf potential and that pick put me back in the game with over 400 points. Others had her too and the two leaders were over 1,000 points. I came right back on the 9th at Calder in a maiden claiming with a 17/1 shot named Omega Rising. He got a great trip, had the lead in mid stretch, but faded late to second. Calder’s races were done after that race. Arlington only had one longshot on Saturday with a first time starter named Cowboy Jones which was not a horse on my radar. The 9th at Saratoga was interesting. My pick, Knock Rock, completely bolted on the far turn and still finished THIRD. Lol. Oh well. The 10th at Saratoga changed the whole contest for a few players. Scorper scored at 11/1 and a few people made him their $40 double win bet. I played Paisano Creek as my $40 double win bet so my day was over. Congratulations to Jimmy D’Ellia who won with $1,172. He used Scorper as his $40 double win bet. Mark McClyment finished second with $1,086. The eventual 3rd place finisher, Stephanie Davis, made an incredible comeback. She started just below my total going into day 2 and finished with $1,078.
The Saratoga contest was another rousing success. This year’s contest was moved to a huge air conditioned tent trackside where the horses come out. It was a little crowded on day 1 lacking some televisions and enough seating for players and guests but all those problems were solved on day 2. The reception after day 1 was held by the paddock and it was great. Kathy Locke and her staff did another wonderful job of putting on a contest that every track in the country should emulate.
