In
the last eleven years, three outstanding fillies, Indian Blessing, Storm Flag
Flying and 2011 Champ My Miss Aurelia have captured both the Frizette Stakes
(G-1) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Although only those three special fillies won both races in over a
decade, seven youngsters that won or placed in the Frizette also finished
second or third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. The last was Dreaming of
Julia in 2012. The Frizette heroine finished third behind Beholder in the
Juvenile Fillies.
Undefeated
graded stakes winners Cavorting and Condo Commando will clash in the one mile Frizette
along with five other talented fillies. Besides a trophy, check and a very nice
photo, the winner will receive a reserved spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
Fillies starting gate. All except two of
these fillies were mentioned on the Kiddie List. Let’s review the field.
CAYMAN CROC (Bob and John - Cayman Sunset, by
Wolf Power (SAF)) won her debut in an
off the turf contest at Delaware Park by 1 ½ lengths. The pretty gray filly is a half sister to the
multiple graded stakes winning sprinter SAILORS
SUNSET, stakes winner SAILOR'S SISTER, and stakes placed Rival Islands. Their dam is a stakes winning sprinter and a half sister to the dam of Alcibiades
heroine WICKEDLY PERFECT. Cayman Croc has posted a series of sprightly
breezes for trainer Kelly Breen.
BY THE MOON (Indian Charlie - By the Light, by Malibu Moon) was
three and four wide in the Spinaway and simply the best of the rest, beating Angela
Renee by six lengths. Her precocious dam
won all four starts at two, and is a multiple stakes earner of almost
$900K. By The Moon draws the far outside
and can sit back while the speed tires out. However, trainer Michelle Nevin is
0-11 in graded stakes.
SELECTIONS:
Rain
is in the forecast and the track may be sloppy. We know that CONDO COMMANDO loves to play in the puddles and BY THE MOON handled it as well. CAVORTING
has an excellent pedigree for mud and should also enjoy it. WONDERGAL
and FEATHERED could also enjoy
getting their hooves muddy.
#6 CONDO COMMANDO
#4 FEATHERED
#1 CAVORTING
#7 BY THE MOON – longshot pick
