The Kiddie List - June 25, 2014
The Kiddie List searches for the best and brightest of this next generation of two year olds. Formerly, I covered the Kiddie List from my blog. Dullahan, El Padrino, Take Charge Indy, Union Rags, Creative Cause, Drill, Dreaming of Julia, Beholder, Kauai Katie, Emollient, Fortify and countless other runners were featured on the Kiddie List before they hit the national radar. Many juveniles that were introduced on the Kiddie List rewarded their backers with double digit wins.
The Kiddie List will spotlight the top workers and blue bloods breezing four furlongs and farther, plus some entries and results. I’ll cover the New York, Kentucky, California and Florida tracks, and occasionally Arlington, Fair Hill and Monmouth. If a particularly well bred baby shows up at another track, I’ll include that one as well. Due to the enormous number of juveniles, some of these names may show up only once or twice. You can find more of this season’s two year olds on the 2015 Kentucky Derby Contenders and Kentucky Oaks Contenders lists.

June 24, 2014 | Four Furlongs | Main Track
The Darley contingent, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin were working up a storm on the main track. All listed below are from this stable.
Ashland Park (Street Cry (IRE) - Ashado, by Saint Ballado) (C) 4F :49.04(6/14) dirt training track. Like many Champion mares, Ashado hasn’t done a whole lot as a broodmare. Two of Ashado’s four foals of racing age have run and one is a winner. The two to race are full siblings to Ashland Park.
Frosted (Tapit - Fast Cookie, by Deputy Minister) (C) 4F :47.54 (1/14); this pretty gray colt has a precocious pedigree. His dam placed in two graded stakes as a juvenile and is a multiple graded stakes winner. She’s a half sister to Juvie Champ and Freshman Sire MIDSHIPMAN. Two of her four foals of racing age have run and both are winners. One is a full sibling to Frosted. Frosted is a stablemate of Ashland Park.
Kick Off (Bernardini - Game Face, by Menifee) (C) 4F :48.11 (5/14); His ¾ sister by A.P. Indy is unraced. Their dam is a MGSW sprinter who won the Princess Rooney (G-1), First Lady (G-2), Inside Information (G-2), etc. She owns the only blacktype in two generations. Kick Off will likely prefer distances up to 1 1/16 to 1 1/8 miles.
Shot Clock (Medaglia d'Oro - Flashing, by A.P. Indy) (C) 4F :47.89 (3/14); He’s the second foal produced by Flashing. She won her debut at two, and as a three year old FLASHING won the Test and Gazelle Stakes (G-1) and was third in the Mother Goose (G-1). The second dam MORNING PRIDE was a 2yo stakes winner in France and third dam is Canadian Champion 3YO Filly KAMAR. Shot Clock has a pedigree fit for the Triple Crown races.
Zennor (Medaglia d'Oro - Zelanda (IRE), by Night Shift) (C) 4F :48.03 (4/14); He is a half to English juvenile stakes winner GREY PEARL (by Gone West) and to French Gr.3 winner TIME PRISONER (by Elusive Quality). Zennor’s dam is a half to French Gr.3 winner EMILY BRONTE, the dam of French Group winners LOCKWOOD and EARNSHAW, the latter is by Medaglia d'Oro. Zennor’s damsire spent his stud career in Ireland and Australia. He’s a full brother to the blue hen FANFRELUCHE, the dam of three Canadian Champions and to Canadian G-1 winner and sire BARACHOIS. Zennor has plenty of turf influences throughout his pedigree and will likely develop into a turf router.

Curalina (Curlin - Whatdreamsrmadeof, by Graeme Hall) (F) $125K KEESEP13; 4F :49.44 (4/35); She’s a half to multiple stakes placed Dream Spinner (by Hard Spun). Two of her three half siblings have raced. Both are winners. One placed multiple times as a 2YO. Whatdreamsrmadeof placed in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies and Grade 2 Fairgrounds Oaks. She’s a half to stakes winner LADY ECHO. Curlina could be fairly precocious and will likely be best up to 1 1/16 miles.
Lots of Chocolate (Mineshaft - Miss Doolittle, by Storm Cat) (F) 4F :49.70 (8/35); She’s a full sister to Florida Derby (G-1) hero DIALED IN and a half to juvenile stakes winner BROADWAY GOLD (by Seeking the Gold) and stakes placed Mambo Master (by Kingmambo). Broadway Gold is the dam of Grade 2 winner and Kentucky Oaks runner-up Broadway’s Alibi and multiple stakes winner R Gypsy Gold. Miss Doolittle placed in the Schuylerville Stakes (G-2) as a two year old and the second dam ELIZA earned Champion 2YO Filly honors. Lots of Chocolate should mature into a filly who will prefer two turns.
Royal Son (Tiznow - Mama Nadine, by A.P. Indy) (C ) 4F :49.45 (5/35); Three of his half siblings have raced, one found the winners circle as a two year old. MAMA NADINE is a stakes winner and Royal Son’s second dam COUNTESS DIANA was a Champion Two Year Old Filly. I don’t expect Royal Son to be particularly precocious. He has the pedigree to handle Classic distances.
Touch the Moon (Malibu Moon - Touch Here, by Touch Gold) (F) $450K FTFMAR14; 4F :49.49 (7/35); She’s a first foal. Her dam is a half sister to KY Oaks heroine SUMMERLY and to stakes placed Let ’em Go. The second dam Here I Go placed in the Golden Rod at two. Touch the Moon has the pedigree to prefer longer distances. KY Oaks anyone?

Awesome Diamond (IRE) (Galileo (IRE) - Adoration, by Honor Grades) $625k BESMAR14; 4f :47.60 (4/41); So far, the offspring of Breeders’ Cup Distaff heroine ADORATION have been a disappointment. From six foals of racing age, four have raced, none have won. Since they all raced over turf or Polytrack and Adoration was bred mainly to turf oriented sires, this could explain the lack of wins on her offspring’s part. Awesome Diamond has three half siblings. The Patrick Biacone trainee will likely point for maiden races at Del Mar.
Elementar (More Than Ready - Val Marie, by Coronado's Quest) (F) $280K KEESEP13; 4F :47.60 (4/41); She’s a half to multiple graded stakes winner GRAND ADVENTURE (by Grand Slam), who won the Summer Stakes (G-3) at two. All four of her other half siblings have had their photo taken in the winner’s circle. Val Marie is a half sister to G-3 winner SCOTUS. The stakes placed second dam is a half to Champion mare LAKEWAY. Elementar is trained by Richard Mandella.

Visitation (City Zip - Divorce Settlement, by Stormin Fever) (R) $47K (RNA) BESMAR13; 5F :59.60 (2/22); He made his debut in a MSW on June 7. Visitation broke slow, bobbled and was never a factor. One of his two half siblings have raced and won. Visitation descends from a prolific stakes winning family. His dam is a half to the multiple stakes winners HONOR THE HERO, CAPITALIMPROVEMENT, PRENUP, CAT'S AT HOME, and GIANT WRECKER. His second dam is Argentinean Champion 3YO Filly MISS LINDA who also raced in the U.S. against Azeri and Take Charge Lady. Miss Linda captured the Spinster Stakes (G-1) Sabin Stakes (G-3). So far, none of her progeny have earned blacktype. Lord Nelson should enjoy running two turns and is trained by Bob Baffert.
