The Kiddie List - July 3, 2014

The Kiddie List searches for the best and brightest of this next generation of two-year-olds. Dullahan, El Padrino, Take Charge Indy, Union Rags, Creative Cause, Drill, Dreaming of Julia, Beholder, Kauai Katie, Emollient, Fortify and countless other runners were featured on the Kiddie List before they hit the national radar. Many juveniles that were introduced on the Kiddie List rewarded their backers with double digit wins.

The Kiddie List will spotlight the top workers and blue bloods breezing four furlongs and farther, plus some entries and results.  I’ll cover the New York, Kentucky, California and Florida tracks, and occasionally Arlington, Fair Hill and Monmouth.    If a particularly well bred baby shows up at another track, I’ll include that one as well. Due to the enormous number of juveniles, some of these names may show up only once or twice.  You can find more of this season’s two year olds on the 2015 Kentucky Derby Contenders and 2015 Kentucky Oaks Contenders lists.

RECENT WINNERS

Evrybdymstgetstonz (Bustin Stones - Tabuha, by Buddha) (F) was ready to roll in her debut in Wednesday’s opener at Belmont.  The daughter of New York sire Bustin Stones shot out of the gate and kept on going, posting fractions of :22.92, :46.70 and :59.00 before coasting under the wire six lengths ahead of her nearest competitor, Razia Sultana. Trained by Gary Contessa, Evrybdymstgetstonz stopped the clock in 1:05.58 for the 5 ½ furlongs.  Evrybdymstgetstonz is the first winner from two starters for her dam. Tabuha is a half to the juvenile stakes placed Playasultrytune.

I Spent It (Super Saver - Rateeba, by Sky Mesa) (C) $600K FTFMAR14; lived up to his hefty price tag in his debut on Wednesday in Belmont’s third race.    In the early stages, I Spent It hustled to the front next to Enjoy the Show on the inside, but was passed by Battle Red, who cut in front of I Spent It, causing him to check back to third.  Castellano allowed the colt to find his stride while sitting a length behind the pace.  In the stretch, Battle Red had a two length lead. I Spent It appeared to hang, then shifted gears while drifting out from the whip.  He collared a game all-out Battle Red to win by ¾ a length, getting the 5F in :58.11.   I Spent It’s dam is a half to multiple juvenile stakes winner and sire ZAVTA and San Rafael Stakes (G-3) placed Cocky.  This is the distaff line of sire DIXIE UNION.  I Spent It is the first winner for his Freshman Sire, Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver. The Tony Dutrow trainee will likely contest the summer stakes races.

Bernardini’s babies only win 10% first time out, but Cavorting’s damsire Carson City adds some win-early speed to her pedigree. Sweet Maya (Malibu Moon - Special Ballad, by Saint Ballado) $125K KEESEP13; She’s a half to ACAFFELLA, winner of the Angel Island Stakes as a 2YO.  Special Ballad is a half to Cowdin Stakes hero TWILIGHT TIME and stakes winner UNINHIBITED SONG. Just too Perfect (Pleasantly Perfect - Winter Tide, by Tale of the Cat) (F) Mentioned on the June 22 Kiddie List.  She’s a full sister to Pleasant Miss who placed in four stakes at two, including the Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies Turf.  Four half siblings raced and three are winners. All won/placed at age two.

Keep an eye on Ozone (Songandaprayer - Thin Air, by Mt. Livermore) (F) $50K FTMMAY14; She doesn’t own a whole lot of blacktype, but she has the most precocious pedigree in the field.  Her half sister Contessa B.
