Off The Tracks Derails the Competition in the Schuylerville Stakes
Fresh off of a 4 ¼ maiden victory at Gulfstream Park, longshot Off the Tracks remained undefeated with a dominating victory in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes for two-year-old fillies on opening day at Saratoga Racecourse.
Breaking from post 4, the young daughter of Curlin was parked three wide with Decked Out on the rail and the favorite, Positively Royal, between them. The trio tracked the pace set by Astoria Stakes winner Moment is Right, who led the field through a :22 first quarter. Around the far turn, Moment is Right continued to lead through a swift :45.52 half mile. Off the Tracks inched up to be second with Positively Royal to her inside. Banree made a four wide move from the back of the pack, leaving Decked Out still down on the rail, in fifth place.
Passing the eighth pole, Moment is Right could do no more and started backing up. Jockey Luis Saez and Off The Tracks blew by the tiring filly to take the lead. Off the Tracks opened up on the field by 3 ¼ lengths, getting five furlongs in a brisk :57.98. She galloped under the wire in 1:11.27 for the six furlongs.
Banree made a good run from fourth to gain a clear second place, 4 ¾ lengths ahead of Decked Out, while the tired Moment is Right was fourth. Off the Tracks rewarded her backers with $19.60, $8.60 and $5.50. Banree paid $7.60 and $4.90, while Decked Out offered $3.50 to show. The $2.00 exacta paid $122.00, the $2 trifecta was worth $517, and the $2 superfecta paid $1,444.00
Off the Tracks (Curlin - Harve de Grace, by Boston Harbor) was a $50,000 Keeneland September yearling. She’s owned by J. Stables (Guerrero) and was bred by Lee McMillin. Roderick Rodriguez trains the filly. Off the Tracks is a half sister to West Virginia & Iowa Derby winner and sire Concord Point.
