Setbacks
Brown
Almighty: After finishing fifth in the Smarty Jones Stakes,
trainer Tim Ice reported the colt had a severe lung infection. Brown
Almighty will be treated with antibiotics and they hope to have him
back on the Derby trail soon.
Frac Daddy: Grabbed a quarter (sustained a hoof injury) in the
Holy Bull Stakes (1/26/13). Will likely need at least 30 days to
heal.
Fury
Kapcori: – out of the Robert B. Lewis Stakes due to “a
little problem that might cost him a little time.” according to
trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
Purple
Egg: Was scratched from the Pasco Stakes due to a fever. He
hasn't recorded a breeze since January 6. trainer Jane Cibelli
planned to target the Sam F. Davis, but may send him directly to the
Tampa Bay Derby.
Off the trail
Archwarrior:
Turned
out on the farm. Maybe we'll see him this summer.
Darwin:
Promising colt finished fourth in the Nashua Stakes. He’s getting a
break may return in the spring.
Gulfport:
Well bred colt was injured after a December breeze.
Hightail:
Longshot
winner of
the
Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint fractured sesamoid and has been
retired. He'll recover at Calumet Farm and breeding plans are in the
works.
Joha:
Recovering
from injury. We'll likely see him later this summer.
Micromanage:
After his disappointing last-place finish in the Remsen Stakes, he’s getting some time off to grow up. We may see him this spring/summer.
Titletown
Five:
Nine length maiden winner suffered a knee chip. D. Wayne Lukas
trainee is out for the next three months. Maybe we’ll see him in
late spring.
Van
Neumann:
Tragically, well-bred colt was euthanized December 7 following an
accident at the gate before a maiden race at Gulfstream.
Z
Big Apple:
Had
surgery and is recuperating. We may see him this spring or summer.
Not Currently Working
Fortify:
Last seen finishing fourth in the BC Juvenile, Fortify Is now under
the guidance of Mahmood Al Zarooni at Godolphin Marmoon Stables in
Dubai. May point to the UAE Derby.
Know
More: After finishing out of the money in his last three
starts, the colt is receiving time off. No word on when he'll return
to the races.
Positively:
G2 stakes placed runner finished seventh in the Kentucky Jockey Club
Stakes on 11/24/12. Pactrick Byrne trainee hasn't recorded a work
since.
Power Broker:
Hasn't recorded a breeze since the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Trainer
Bob Baffert said that the horse would be given some time off to put
on some weight. Powerbroker was scheduled to start in the Robert B.
Lewis Stakes on Feb. 2, but hasn't recorded a work yet this year.
River
Seven: Earned 10 points on the Derby trail by winning the
Grey Stakes at Woodbine. No recorded works this year. Would likely
point to the Canadian TC races.
Rolling
Fog: After winning the Del Mar Futurity, trainer Bob Baffert
stopped on the colt due to shin issues. No works have been recorded
since last August.
Uncaptured:
Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes winner suffered a foot bruise and missed
the Sam F.. Davis Stakes. May point to the Tampa Bay Derby on March
9.
