Coverage of Every Derby Horse & Interview - Kentucky Derby 2012
To say it was cold this morning at Churchill Downs is an understatement. Well, maybe for people like me who don't have any body fat it was extremely cold. It was a cool and crisp 39 degrees when I arrived at the track this morning at 5:30 AM. However, the action on the backside felt like it was 110 degrees. I was kept on my toes this morning covering works from Daddy Nose Best and Sabercat around 6:00 AM. We caught up with both horses in the barn area and on the track pre and post work. Also, jockey Garrett Gomez came into town to ride Daddy Nose Best for the first time. We got his thoughts along with coverage of both horses after they got off the track.
Sabercat ended up going 5F in 1:02.80 out in 6F in 1:16.40. Daddy Nose Best covered 6F in 1:14 out in 7F in 1:27.20. Nice and easy works for the both of them. Look ahead to next week for something a little quicker.
After the break at 8:30 AM, every Derby horse and several Oaks horses on the grounds came out to gallop on the track. From Bodemeister, to Dullahan, to Optimizer, to Prospective, we got video of them all. Also, Mark Valeski worked during this time going 5F in 59:60 seconds. Optimizer also worked going 4F in 48 4/5 seconds. Here is the footage of all the horses out on the track this morning.
