It All Comes Down To The Breeders Crown

The motto never gets old: “It all comes down to the Breeders Crown”! Indeed. Excitement is building up here in The Great White - or in the case of today rainy - White North as we are only a few hours away to post time for what is arguably the best and most competitive Breeders Crown card assembled to date. The 12 one-mile dashes begin at 6:30 Eastern with local hero FRENCHFRYSNVINEGAR hoping to kick it off with a win for the home team as the heavy favorite in the Aged Mare Trot. At this point it appears almost certain the track will be sloppy at post time and it remains to be seen if that will favor or hinder quick leavers. 

There are several intriguing story lines tonight, not the least of which is European superstar COMMANDER CROWE- who finished 3^rd behind 2011 North American Horse Of The Year SAN PAIL last fall-returning to Woodbine for a 2^nd crack at the Aged Trot facing off against American champ CHAPTER SEVEN and local hero MISTER HERBIE. Hambletonian champ MARKET SHARE faces off against INTIMIDATE who absolutely flew down the Woodbine stretch to beat him in last week’s elimination and LITTLE BROWN FOX who opened up a huge lead in his own elim before coasting down the lane. 2YO leader CAPTAIN TREACHEROUS only once-beaten looks to parlay a scintillating 150 elimination romp into Breeders Crown Glory. The 3YO Colt and Gelding Pace looks wide open with several live contenders. The Aged Pace sees $4.4 million earner FOILED AGAIN take on several familiar contenders in the card’s finale. One thing to remember regarding last week’s eliminations is that speed was not holding as it historically does at Woodbine, so, some front-enders that tired late may be good play-backs at decent value. The great 3YO trotting filly CHECK ME OUT, winner of 25 of 30 races, faces off against arch-rivals WIN MISSY B and MAVEN.

We like a few price plays here tonight and our strongest play is the #8 horse in the 2YO Colt Trot - race 8. His name is ROYALTY FOR LIFE and the reasons behind why we like this horse so much can be found here in a previous blog post.

Suffice to say if this Rc Royalty colt wins as we expect it could be a big evening of wagering for Drive On.

Another horse that interests us is #7 LOVE CANAL in the 2YO Filly Pace - race 2. The price will be good on this filly because she was soundly beaten by the “now horse” the regally-bred filly coming from post #2 SOMEWHEREOVERARAINBOW who set a new life’s mark of 151.2, but also had a much better trip and more aggressive drive. LOVE CANAL was returning from a 2-month break and when she shook free down the lane was visibly motoring home in the last 1/16^th of a mile. Finals are historically driven much more aggressively than elims and we think LOVE CANAL has a big shot of upsetting at a square price. We will also be boxing the exacta with SOMEWHEREOVERARAINBOW who is just way to sharp to ignore.
