Welcome to the 2-Year-Old Tracker

With the Triple Crown races officially over, there are only 313 days until the 2013 Kentucky Derby. Since early 2012 we began to see some of the stars of tomorrow begin to race, and at HRN we have already launched our 2013 Kentucky Derby Contenders page. This blog along with the list of 2-year-olds on that page will keep you up to date on all the young horses racing across the nation.

More recently we saw a notable stake race featuring 2-year-olds, The Willard Proctor Memorial, at Betfair Holllywood Park. This race featured an impressive colt named Amarish for trainer Jeff Bonde. Amarish is now 2-2 and should be pointed to more stakes action, probably at Del Mar. He is also the number-one rated horse on the HRN 2013 Kentucky Derby Contenders Poll.

Next weekend, Churchill Downs will feature the Bashford Manner Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings. The number 2 horse on the 2013 Kentucky Derby Contenders Poll, Romans Avenue, looks to be pointed towards this race. Another possiblilty to the field is a horse with just that name, Positively. For trainer Patrick Byrne, Positively won impressively second out and looks to improve as he goes longer.

On the female side, Churchill Downs featured the Debutante Stakes this afternoon for 2-year-old's. The winner of this race was a filly by the name of Blueeyesintherein. Trained by Garry Simms, Blueeyesintherein stormed home impressively to bring her record to 2-2 in her young career. Check out video coverage of the Debutante from yesterday's day at Churchill Downs.

From the Kentucky Derby perspective in 2013, we might not see a lot of this year’s field not racing until later this year. With the new point system, it allows horses to develop longer before they need to gain the required points to get in the Kentucky Derby field. However, as noted above, we are already seeing a lot of talented youngsters that could have a bright future. For more informantion, check out the full list of the Kentucky Derby point races. With some talented 2-year-olds still unraced, and ones that have already shown talent, HRN will bring you all the coverage and progress here on the 2-Year-Old Tracker.
