Sistonic seeks the role as newest Queen of Australian Racing

Making only her second career start in the Reg Delaney Memorial Handicap (1200m), Sistonic, by Bel Esprit-Danivia, half sister to Black Caviar's dam Helsinge, rolled home today for a convincing win in the third race on the card from Moonee Valley Race Course.

Sent off as the heavy favorite in the field of eight three-year-old fillies, the 3/4 sister to Black Caviar took command early into the race. Quick into stride, she relaxed well on the lead and won easily while being geared down the last 100 meters.

It was tight for second, with the Godolphin filly, Distraught, just getting the nod over Zambezi Diamond.

The margin of victory was shorter, however as rider Jye McNeil stated, “She coasted to the line but if I had asked her to she would have won it quite easily.”

Trainer David Haynes says the filly will make her next appearance in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 27. If all goes well, she is also slated to contest Victoria’s Autumn Newmarket Handicap later on in the season.

Although it is much too soon to say for sure, Australia may just have another world class turf sprinter. The pedigree would surely suggest it.
