Photos from Jenny Wiley Day at Keeneland

Jenny Wiley Day was a beautiful, 85 degree day at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky. The day was perfect to tell a story through photos, which are some of the first for my brand new camera. In the morning, multiple top horses were seen stretching their legs.

Once the races started, the excitement really began, despite a scene of a rider leaving in the ambulance during the morning workouts.

Swift One (g. Munnings) won race two for trainer Wesley Ward going six furlongs. The win was the third for the gelding's career.

In race 4, Tasteful (Street Cry) broke her maiden going 6.5 furlongs by 3 3/4 lengths.

Next, Society Beau, a consistent Neil Howard trainee sired by Curlin won the 1 1/8 mile allowance for his second career win. The bay colt has only been out of the top three one time, in his career debut.

The first turf race came in the 6th race, where Godolphin and Kiaran McLaughlin won their second race of the day, with a grey son of Medaglia d'Oro, over Juddemont Forge (GB).

After Zennor's allowance win, The Ben Ali (GIII) was the first graded stakes races on the card. Godolphin sent in the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee Watershed, who faced off against horses like Eagle (the 2016 Ben Ali winner), Bird Song, and Blofeld. The Bernardini colt is a half Footbridge, a Grade 2 stakes placed horse, also owned by Godolphin.

Watershed finished ahead of Eagle (2nd), Bird Song (3rd), and Blofeld (4th).

Next, the powerful Scat Daddy filly, Lady Aurelia made her return to the races for Wesley Ward in the listed Giant's Causeway Stakes, which is contested at 5 1/2 furlongs.

Then, the final Kentucky Derby prep was up! The Lexington Stakes offered 10 points to the winner for the Kentucky Derby, but has recently worked as a Preakness Stakes prep. This year, Bob Baffert shipped in West Coast, a Flatter 1/2 to Gold Hawk and Juan and Bina. However, the Kenny McPeek horse Senior Investment caught the colt right at the wire to win the Lexington. The Discreetly Mine colt will aim for the Preakness Stakes.

Jockey Channing Hill takes a moment to give his charge some love and attention after a job well done.

Finally, the feature race of the day was up! The return of Lady Eli was a highly anticipated one, which made her a deserving favorite.

However, the race did not play out like many would have hoped.

Lady Eli fought hard, but she came up short in the shadow of the wire to the 6-1 shot Dickinson, the fourth winner on the day for Godolphin and Kiaran McLaughlin.

Dickinson is a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro and a very successful racehorse, winning 7 of her 14 lifetime starts. She is a multiple graded stakes winner. Paco Lopez again guided her to the winners circle.

Jenny Wiley day was full of close finishes and successful trips. There were some upsets, and some favorites who ran to their odds. Overall, the day was a success.
