Conquest Mo Money is Flying Under the Radar
Conquest Mo Money is flying under the Kentucky Derby radar, having stayed undefeated in three lifetime starts. In the barn of Miguel Hernandez, Conquest Mo Money has done all his winning and racing for Judge Lanier Racing.
Owner Tom McKenna of Judge Lanier Racing said, “Yes, I like what a saw [in the Mine That Bird Derby]. Jorge [Carreno] rode him perfectly. He put him in the right spot at the right time. We prevailed. We have a good horse and he stayed with it. The Sunland Derby is next.”
The bay colt was a $180,000 purchase by Conquest Stables in the Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga 2015 Preferred New York Bred Yearling Sale. However, Conquest Stables dissolved, the colt was scooped up for only $8,500 by Judge Lanier Stables.
The $8,500 is obviously worth every penny, as the colt has since won three races and $132,900 in those three starts.
Pedigree wise, the cross which Conquest Mo Money is bred on, which is Uncle Mo over Mr. Prospector (and sons and grandsons of) have an average winning distance of 7.46 furlongs. The rated cross has 129 foals of racing age, 53 staters (41%) and 40 winners from the starters (75%).
The cross is responsible for horses like Gomo (out of an Elusive Quality mare), Laoban (out of Speightstown mare), and Mo Tom (out of a Rubiano mare). Conquest Mo Money is out of a mare by Seeking the Gold, who sired horses such as Heavenly Prize (8x Grade I winner, Champion 3YO filly, producer), Cash Run (winner of 1999 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies), and Jazil (win 2006 Belmont Stakes, half to 2007 Belmont Stakes winner Rags to Riches).
There is inbreeding in the pedigree of Conquest Mo Money, including Buckpasser (4Dx4D) through daughters Con Game and Passing Mood. Buckpasser’s sire, Tom Fool, and dam, Busanda, can be found in the fifth generation of the dam’s side. There is also influence from Northern Dancer (5Sx5Dx5D) through sons Dixieland Band and Vice Regent, as well as daughter Cool Mood.
Northern Dancer can also be traced through sons Sovereign Dancer and Danzig, both in the fifth generation on the stallion’s side.
When it comes to siblings, the colt is a half to Nowhere to Hide, a Vindication gelding who finished 17th in the 2009 Kentucky Derby behind Mine That Bird, who upset the race at odds of 50-1.
Overall, the pedigree on Conquest Mo Money suggests he should handle not only nine furlongs but also ten, the classic distance of the Kentucky Derby.
