Opening Day Stakes at Lone Star Park

Photo: Mary Cage

It is heating up down here in Texas, and I am not talking about the temperature. Lone Star Park kicks off their 2015 spring meet this Thursday. New to Texas, I am really looking forward to my first meet at the track. One thing I have already learned, is that everything is truly bigger in Texas. Opening Day features 93 entries over the 9 race program, including the Premiere Stakes. A competitive field of eleven Texas-breds will go 6 1/2 furlongs over the dirt to get things started.

If you are looking for a great weeknight race or just a brief breather from the Derby trail, look no further!

1

Nublado Bling

He faded badly in Big Drama Stakes last time out, expecting more of the same here.

2

Marty's Wimbledon

He is consistent but often struggles to get to the line first. Would need big effort.

3

Music Row

Going from a $6250 claimer to a $50k stakes is something you don't see everyday!

4

He's A Bling

The Kevin Harvick of the dirt as he has 6 straight top 2 finishes. Trainer Dominguez is one of the best in the southwest and should have him ready for another solid run.

5

Solar Charge

Eight-year-old has had a nice career but has not found the winner's circle since this event last year.

6

F J Uncle Vic

He is finally cutting back in distance. I think jockey and trainer may play catch me if you can.

7

Edplicit

He needs to be out of the gate fast, but may not have enough early gusto to prevail.

8

Texas Air

Showed a lot of stamina and heart in his last start. The cutback to this distance is a present for him.

9

A M Milky Way

I am wary of his ability to push on in that last half furlong, especially if forced wide breaking from outside.

10

Wagson

He will be making his 2nd start for trainer Calhoun and should be charging home late.

11

Internet Success

He is going for 4 in a row, but stepping up. I don't think this race will be much of a 'success'.
