A closer look at Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2

With 87 days until Kentucky Derby 2018, the 24 betting interests in Future Wager Pool 2 were released by Churchill Downs.

Below you will find the 23 individual horses listed with odds from Pool 1, their three most-recent Beyer Speed Figures, the results from their last race, and their current HRN ranking. Unless you assemble the Beyers yourself, this is the only place where you can find this information because of the ongoing disagreement between Churchill and the Daily Racing Form. DRF will not being issuing past performances for the Future Wager Pools as it has previous years.

Catholic Boy, the likely favorite in Grade 3 Sam F. Davis, is the only horse from the list running this weekend.

In summary...Here is a list of horses in which I am interested:

Catholic Boy – If he runs a big race this weekend, I will wait and see what his odds are on Sunday. If he is close to 20-1, I will bet him.

Copper Bullet – He is going to offer big odds in this pool. He showed a lot of talent last year and his most recent workout was fast for an Asmussen horse indicating he is ready to roll.

Instilled Regard – His win in the Lecomte was one of the best performances on the Derby Trail this year, so odds of 30-1 would be a huge overlay.

Mendelssohn – I still believe that the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner will take to the dirt, and you will get hefty odds in this pool.

Principe Guilherme – This horse is talented as he showed in the Lecomte.  He will probably get overlooked in here.

Sporting Chance – I’ll take 50-1 on the chance that D. Wayne Lukas can work some magic with the winner of the Hopeful.
