Breeders' Cup On Site - Our Best Bets

We all know that there are no sure things in horse racing, but the Horse Racing Nation Staff is feeling inspired by its magnificent Santa Anita surroundings. Here is the one bet that each of us is most looking forward to placing at Breeders' Cup 2012.

 

Scott Dick, Hoosier State of Mind

 

The Breeders’ Cup Sprint is a race I can’t wait to pour my money into. The Lumber Guy is a horse that jumped out to me on the backside on Thursday.  He’s filled out physically from a little boy into a grown man.  He has the speed to be close to Sum of the Parts and Fast Bullet early on with the closing kick and stamina to outlast the late closers. His performance facing older horses for the first time in the G1 Vosburgh was simply breath taking. He will be my best bet of the weekend! Make a win, place, show wager.

 

Jasen Mangrum, Handicapper's Corner

 

The more I look at Marketing Mix the more I like her. She has tactical speed, loves the distance & will be tough to run down regardless of how good the Europeans are. The Fugue has been pointed towards this race all year and should be firing her best shot. My best play is a Marketing Mix/The Fugue exacta box multiple, multiple times.

Friday's card is incredibly tough, so we all might need to do some digging out late in the card.  Fortunately, the Ladies Classic provides the perfect opportunity. 

 

In a race full of quality speed and pace pressers, Include Me Out stands out as the lone closer.  That gives her a major shot - and she's 15-1 in this deep field! Let's play her to hit the board, and possibly win.

Mike Midland, Bombs Away

 

I have two price horses that I will focus on today.  In the 6^th, the Juvenille Filles Turf, I am looking for a huge effort from Tara From The Cape.  There is very little pace signed on so she should get a great early stalking trip even if she doesn't make the lead.   The fractions will be much softer than her last, where she pressed a quick early quarter and half while 3 wide in the Alcibiades and was the only one to stick around who was involved early.  I will key her in a trifecta wheel in 1st and 2nd with the other main players.

My second price comes in the last race, the Twilight Derby.   There is a good deal of speed in here between Regulus, My Best Brother, and Hoist so I am landing on All Squared Away at 20-1 ML.  You can toss his last on the soft turf in the Hawthorne Derby and prior to that was only beaten a couple lengths in the Del Mar Derby while encountering some trouble.   He possesses a strong late kick and that will be enhanced with anticipated strong early fractions.  At 20-1 let's try and catch a signer with some tri wheels keying All Squared Away in all 3 slots.

In the Ladies Classic I can't wait to bet My Miss Aurelia, The Stonestreet filly is being ignored by most bettors and she will be a great value. My Miss Aurelia enters the Ladies Classic off a superior performance. In the Cotillion at Parx she defeated Questing at her own game. Remember at the time Questing was the horse that everyone was talking about. The race unfolded perfectly for Questing as she got the lead at a very moderate pace, but MMA was still able to courageously run her down in the stretch, Bet My Miss Aurelia to win, place, and show at odds of 4-1 or better.

My best bet of the 2012 Breeders’ Cup will come in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Despite the overall depth of the field, I believe one young filly will prove herself better than the rest; her name is Spring Venture. The chestnut daughter of red-hot freshman sire Spring at Last has done nothing but impress even before her racing career began. The much talked about two-year-old in training purchase dominated her first two races, both on the turf, with impressive ease, including a victory over Spring in the Air, who won a grade 1 in her next start. Back on the grass , I look for her to demonstrate her big talent at the ideal time with a big win today.
