Even though a small field is likely, it will not be easy to win what shapes up to be a very contentious 2013 Breeders' Cup Distaff. In
preparation for the Distaff let’s take a look at the racing resumés of the four horses that are most likely to get
the job done.
Trainer, Bill Mott has Royal Delta and Close Hatches in the Distaff. Mott has
nine career Breeders’ Cup wins and five of them have come in this race. Rider, Mike
Smith will be seeking his sixth win in the Distaff aboard Royal Delta.
Todd Pletcher is seeking his eighth win in the Breeders’ Cup with Princess of Sylmar. His only victory in
the Distaff was with Ashado in 2004.
Richard Mandella, the trainer of Beholder, won four races on the same Breeders' Cup card in 2003 at Santa Anita: the
Juvenile Fillies, the Juvenile, the Turf, and the Classic. In total Mandella
has won seven Breeders’ Cup races. This includes Beholder’s win in last year’s
Juvenile Fillies. Mandella is seeking his first win in the Distaff.
After reviewing the resumés of these Breeders’ Cup Distaff contenders, who do you think is most qualified to get the job done when the horses go into the gate at 7:35pm ET on November 1st?
