Each week leading up to the 2019 Kentucky Derby, Horse Racing Nation hosts EJ Clark's Kentucky Winner's Circle podcast looking ahead to the top preps.
On a new edition of the Kentucky Winner's Circle podcast, EJ Clark reports from Churchill Downs, chatting with trainers Bret Calhoun and Bill Mott.
Calhoun, a first-time Derby trainer, conditions the Louisiana Derby (G2) winner By My Standards, who has already worked twice since then under the Twin Spires with a third scheduled for Sunday.
The Hall of Famer Mott has a pair for the Derby, Tacitus and Country House. The former won both the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and Wood Memorial (G2), and Mott believes he could do better third off a layoff in the Derby. As for Country House, placed in two major preps, "He's a big of a grinder."
