A school-aged boy, the subject of an ITV News feature shot in the South London district of Brixton, said he had only seen pictures of horses before joining the Ebony Racing Club.

“It’s calmed me down in school — stopped me from coming to trouble — because I know as soon as that bell rings, I know that I’m on my way here,” the boy said.

The video piece is only an introduction into what has been an extremely successful venture. Horse and Hound notes its location is in “one of the most disadvantaged areas of the capital” but provides access to horses for more than 160 kids a week.

Last year, two members of the Ebony Horse Club were given the chance to race ride at Ascot, hailed as “just the beginning” of its goals.
