Justify saddles up one last time at the Baffert barn

Could it be the last time we see a saddle on Triple Crown winner Justify?

Usher Brand Silver & Saddlery on Monday delivered a custom saddle to Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert recognizing both his sweeps of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes. Complete with the Triple Crown logo, it names both American Pharoah and Justify.

More of a trophy than for practical use, the saddle still made its way on to Justify. In another photo shared to Facebook, jockey Mike Smith is seen aboard the unbeaten champ at Del Mar.

It was another in a series of sendoffs for a colt who didn't debut until February, won all six of his races and was officially retired last week, with connections saying Justify has persistent swelling in his left-front ankle that would keep him from training up to the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Elliott Walden, president and CEO of managing partner WinStar Farm, said Justify will travel back to Kentucky this week. Toward the middle of August, WinStar will offer on-site tours that include a look at Justify, at least until a reported breeding deal sees his move down the road to Coolmore's Ashford Stud.
