California Chrome's sidekick in spotlight for Triple Crown season

Having joined Taylor Made’s Stallion Complex in March, it took Kentucky Chrome — a scaled-down version of two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome — only about as long as upstart big horse Justify to grab the Triple Crown spotlight.

CNN stopped by the Nicholasville, Ky., farm to meet the miniature Shetland and on Thursday shined a spotlight on a pony that, around Taylor Made, they simply call “Tucky.”

Kentucky Chrome has trained with John Baar, hose Raising The Baar Horsemanship has molded the horse into another attraction at Taylor Made — you know, if the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner California Chrome isn’t quite enough.

“He's been really nice and they're so smart and incredibly intelligent that it's actually pretty easy,” Baar told CNN, “especially once you get them to become your partners.”

Eventually, the horse’s arsenal of tricks will include rearing, laying down and sitting on command. That’s in addition to serving as Taylor Made’s mascot of sorts, and a sidekick to the real deal, California Chrome, whose first foals arrived this season.
