HorseCenter: Travers, Alabama and Del Mar Oaks analysis

Photo:

This week on HorseCenter your hosts Brian Zipze and Matt Shifman take an early look at the Grade 1 Travers Stakes, as well as offering analysis and top picks for a pair of Grade 1 races for the 3-year-old fillies on Saturday, the Alabama and Del Mar Oaks.

The Travers has a probable field of nine 3-year-olds for the big race on Aug. 26 at Saratoga. The field includes the 2-year-old champion Forte and the winners of all three Triple Crown races in Mage, National Treasure and Arcangelo, and they will try to stake their claim at the division leadership.

On Saturday at Saratoga 10 fillies will contest the 1 1/4-mile Alabama Stakes. Four-time stakes winner Wet Paint is one of the three Grade 1 winners in the field, and they are joined by the royally bred Todd Pletcher filly Julia Shining.

At Del Mar in California on Saturday 10 3-year-old fillies are featured on the turf in the Del Mar Oaks. The morning-line favorite is likely to be Anisette, who won her last three races with two of them in the U.S. and the other in Ireland.

Have a great weekend of racing in the east and the west and, as always, thanks for watching the show.
