HorseCenter: Picks for Jim Dandy, Vanderbilt at Saratoga

Photo:

This week on HorseCenter, your hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman handicap a pair of races from Saratoga on Saturday. The Grade 2 Jim Dandy is headlined by the champion Forte, and Elite Power puts his reputation as America's top sprinter on the line in the Vanderbilt (G1).

The Jim Dandy drew a field of five 3-year-olds led by the 7-5 morning-line favorite Forte, who will try to move back to the top of the division while preparing for the Aug. 26 Travers Stakes (G1). The field includes four graded stakes-winners and the third-, fourth- and fifth-place finishers from the Kentucky Derby.

Elite Power brings his seven-race winning streak to the Vanderbilt, which has a seven-horse field. The Bill Mott trainee will be challenged by Gunite, who was the impressive winner of the Aristides at Churchill Downs with a career-best speed figure.

HorseCenter will continue its coverage of summer racing at Saratoga and Del Mar. As always, thanks for watching the show.
